Can design reimagine space and community to attract diverse users, challenge conventions, and inspire empowering knowledge exchange?

hypothesis

Design can foster an empowering and inclusive community by uniting diverse users through shared experiences rather than individual opinions or preferences.

This project seeks to breathe new life into a large abandoned building situated at the boundary between affluent Boston and a neighboring underserved community. The building is transformed into a venue that elevates the everyday—where people can play music while others grocery shop, where canned food is displayed as art, and where a test kitchen is open to those who lack access to such resources. A restaurant and bar further invite gathering and exchange. All programs are connected by a central staircase enclosed within a glass volume inserted into the heart of the building. This staircase visually and physically links all floors and activities, ensuring that once inside, individuals become part of a shared, protected, and uplifting collective.
